Press Release April 2008

PuraFilters Limited, formed by the team that designed and built the Bitterling range of oil filtration machines until Ernest A. Bitterling was placed in administration at the end of 2007, is pleased to announce the great success it has achieved in bringing its new filtration machines to the market in the first quarter of 2008.

The PuraFilters team, which has decades of experience in providing filtration products  for the catering market, is led by Martin Spencer, who, himself, worked at Bitterling for more than 20 years, learning about all aspects of cooking oil filtration from his early days as an apprentice on the shop floor to his position as General Manager of Bitterling’s filtration division for 9 years, from 1998 to the day that Bitterling closed its doors for the last time in October 2007. Martin says: ‘the team were determined that their considerable knowledge and understanding of hot oil filtration and engineering should not be lost to Bitterling customers and the catering market in general. The Bitterling filtration system was too good to be allowed to disappear and so we found the backing to re-launch the old Bitterling 100 and Bitterling CS 55 machines under the PuraFilters brand.’

Martin goes on to point out that: ‘PuraFilters is the only company in the UK whose product development, manufacturing and marketing is solely dedicated to filter machines; filtration is our business, it is where all our energies and many years of experience are applied. Our aim is to provide our customers with the most reliable and dependable filtration products on the market whilst keeping our machines simple to operate.’

PuraFilters prides itself in offering a choice of machines to customers and currently has two products in its cooking oil filter machine range. The PuraOil 100 machine is the company’s general purpose model and the new PuraOil 125 which has more features and appeals to higher volume catering establishments. Martin Spencer says: ‘we offer customers as much choice as possible when they come to select their filter machine and we believe the PuraFilters’ machine range will suit all types of fast food and other catering outlets. Both the PuraFilters machines do exactly the same job to the same exacting standards that Bitterling users will recognise. The PuraOil 100, with fewer features is ideal for customers working to a budget but wanting the same performance as that provided by the new and higher specification PuraOil 125.’

Both PuraFilters machines will filter cooking oil from cooking temperatures so no time need be lost by an operator at the end of the day in waiting for oil to cool before filtration begins – as Martin points out: ‘customers with three fryer ranges often tell us that they begin the daily filtration before they close in the evening. One fryer is filtered before closing and the other two as soon as the doors are shut for the day. This means that a customers using PuraFilters machines will complete the daily job of cleaning the range and filtering the cooking oil no more than 20 minutes from closing the doors at the end of the day. This is a considerable saving in time compared with doing the job without the benefit of a PuraFilter machine.’

PuraFilters recommend daily filtration of cooking oil to produce the best results. The company say that customers often experience an increase in trade after they start daily filtering with a PuraFilters machine as daily use of the machine dramatically enhances the appearance, taste and quality of the food produced.

‘Customers also save money’, says Martin. ‘Daily filtering will increase the active life of cooking oil by up to 80% and, as a result, a customer will save up to 40% of the annual cost of his cooking oil. This means that the  investment in a PuraFilters machine will have a pay back of well under a year for an average oil user and the saving in oil will go straight into profit.’

PurarFilters exhibited its machines at the Donington Fast Food Exhibition at the beginning of April and this exhibition completed its Spring show programme. The company also had stands at Expowest in Cornwall and What’s Cooking? the Colbeck show in Newcastle in March. ‘These shows provided us with a great opportunity to bring the PuraFilters story direct to our customers across the length and breadth of the country’ says Martin Spencer. ‘We are pleased to announce that PuraFilters has been an immediate success in the market, picking up where Bitterling left off. Our machines and filtration system were very well received by everybody coming on to the stands. We are now working flat out to fill all the orders we have taken. We were delighted with the results of these trade shows and also the opportunity we had to discuss, directly with our customers, their particular filtration needs and requirements. Direct contact with customers is a great help in planning future product development and ensuring that customers are happy with the service and products we provide.’

PuraFilters offers a two year manufacturers warranty with each machine it sells and supplies filter papers, spare parts and provides a maintenance service to its customers and all owners of Bitterling machines.
